Despite the solar power industry entering an era of high-profile bankruptcies, the Obama administration seems gung-ho on promoting solar power in six Western states by identifying them as “Solar Energy Zones”. Solar power companies like Solyndra who received nearly half-billion dollar federal loan have etched a failure story of the millennium but the undeterred Obama government is continuing pushing its big-league plans to promote solar power development. California prisons installed with solar panels

California state prisons will capitalize on the advantages of solar energy thanks to the construction of solar power plants at its prison grounds, credit California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and SunEdison. The solar panels will be erected at Chuckawalla Valley and Ironwood State Prisons in Blythe, Kern State Prison in Delano and California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi respectively. While the four solar panel projects are undergoing their construction phase and will start generating power by late December, the fifth installation at California State Prison, Los Angeles County is expected to be complete by coming summer along with the second phase of the Tehachapi project.

IKEA’s Covina Store Powers Up on Solar Energy

IKEA, the Swedish company is ideally recognized for selling ready-to-assemble furniture at modest costs at its worldwide stores. Now, it is drawing out blueprints for a few more makeovers by powering their U.S. stores with solar energy panel systems. Recently, a solar energy system was installed at its San Gabriel Valley store in Covina, California, which includes an amalgamation of 57,000-square-foot PV array, 451-kW system plus 2,002 panels. IKEA’s enterprising activity will produce 651,800 kWh of clean electricity annually, which is comparable to reducing 495 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) and eradicating the emissions of 88 cars plus powering 55 homes yearly. It’s a known fact that having shared coequal views on using clean energy, solar panel and EV consumers are the same people from the higher middle class with an increasing disposable amount of money. Not surprisingly, Ford and SunPower, the largest solar panel maker in Silicon Valley have come together to offer consumers a bundle of rooftop solar panel assembly along with their new buy of Focus Electric.
